The Juris Doctor level is the standard law degree program, with applicants required to have a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in order to pursue it. It is not mandatory, however, for prospective law students to have some previous experience with the judicial system or take courses of law in the undergraduate level for them to be permitted to study at this level. In the application step, law schools request for recommendation letters and test scores for the LSAT (Law School Admission Test). In some instances, law schools at this level request for the applicant’s current resume.
Core courses of the level are covered in the curriculum’s first year. The student may opt for a concentration then tackle a given number of elective units. Some of the classes in this level include torts, legal writing, environmental law and public interest law, constitutional law and patent law, federal litigation, law and ethics, amongst others.
